Who can join? To become a member of Barry Credit Union an applicant must live or work within the boundaries of Barry. Anyone in temporary employment, on short term contract or seasonal employment not living in Barry is not eligible. Applicants must be over sixteen years of age; pay a membership fee of £1, complete an appropriate application form, hold at least one full share (£1 saving) and agree to abide by the rule of the Credit Union.
What do I get when I join? A convenient and painless way to save each week or month at one of the Barry Credit Union collection points or via direct debit or standing order payable to Barry Credit Union Ltd. If you choose to save through one of our collection points you can save as much or as little as you wish.
Unless you have an outstanding loan, you can withdraw your savings at any time by giving seven days notice (two days in cases of extreme urgency). The membership fee of one pound is deductible from your first savings instalment.
Other benefits!!! When you become a member of Barry Credit Union Ltd. you get free life insurance on your savings. In the event of a member's death, his/her savings plus an equal amount of life insurance will be paid to the person nominated as the beneficiary. You are also entitled to free loan protection insurance in the event of permanent disability preventing paid employment or in the event of your death.
Free insurance is only available to persons over the age of 18 years and below the age of 70 years providing any medical condition is exhausted from the first six months of membership or loan period.
